Setting Up Your Moon Clock

A Moon Phase Clock is designed to indicate the phase of the lunar cycle, perfect for those who love star gazing, night fishing, or camping under the stars. The moon phase clock works on a timed mechanism taking 29.5 days for a compete rotation. The exact lunar cycle is 29 days, 12 hours, and 44 minutes. For this reason, it is recommended to reset your moon phase clocks during a full moon from time to time to ensure continued accuracy.

To set your Moon Clock:

Our Moon Phase Clocks are suitable for mounting in or outdoors. Be sure to locate your moon clock in an area where it will remain undisturbed. Do not position in direct sunlight and avoid sources of heat. The steps are as follows:

  1. Establish the current moon phase for your location by your local weather website online or in your diary.
  2. Remember, a moon clock rotates much slower than a time clock. Once you insert the battery it may be possible to hear a very faint ticking of the mechanism, but don’t worry if you don’t.
  3. During the full moon, set the clock with the needle pointing straight up to the full moon symbol at the 12 o’clock position. You can adjust the hand by turning the small cog on the back of the dial.
